REGION | MOUNT CANIGOU

Mount Cangiou is the highest peak in the Pyrénées-Orientales. It stands at 2784 metres.

The brave can enjoy uninterrupted views from the summit over the Roussillon area! If you’re lucky and have fine weather when you summit you can even see Barcelona! This mountain range is one of the most renowned among Catalans and boasts an abbey: Saint-Martin-du-Canigou. The abbey housed Benedictine monks in the tenth century near the village of Casteil and today you can stop off there during your walk along the different mountain hiking trails.
